HORSEBACK To Release new Album Soon
Press Release from Relapse Records
HORSEBACK: Complete New Album
Chapel Hill , NC ’s HORSEBACK has completed the recording on their new full-length and highly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s The Invisible Mountain. The album, titled Half Blood was described by mainman Jenks Miller as “the band’s most ambitious record to date that represents a synthesis of the approaches we’ve explored in the past”. Truly a natural progression in their increasingly prolific catalog, Half Blood was self-recorded and produced by Jenks Miller at The Chateau in the band’s hometown. Additional tracking was done at Arbor Ridge Studios and Track and Field Recording by Nick Petersen.
Half Blood is set for a Spring 2012 release via Relapse Records and features stunning cover artwork from renowned Russian surrealist painter Denis Forkas Kostromitin. The material on Half Blood is an amalgamation of drone, doom, black-metal, psychedelia, post-rock, noise, and ambience recorded with a wide array of instruments including guitar, bass, drums, keys, piano, bells, contact mics, field recordings, drum programming, noise and various signal processors. More details on the album including a full tracklisting, cover art, and song samples will be revealed shortly.
HORSEBACK is available for interviews upon request. To speak with the band, simply contact bob@relapse.com. Updated HORSEBACKnews / album information will be made available at the Relapse Records website: RELAPSE.com, the HORSEBACK Facebook page.
“The Invisible Mountain the same epic instrumental rock feel of Grails or Tarentel, and Miller’s vocals are so growled and low in the mix that at times they are easy to mistake for another guitar. Both elements separate Horseback from the usual swampy sound of drone rock.” - The Wire
“It’s like a vision quest guided by Rhys Chatham, Tony Iommi and Matthew Bower … There are no climaxes here. Mountain isn’t cathartic thanks to moments of release, but rather its 40-minute commitment to deliberation.” - The Independent
“Listening to Horseback’s Invisible Mountain is like listening to the soundtrack to the most profound and thought-provoking movie you’ve ever seen.” – Verbicide
“A spiritually epic journey that you cannot afford to miss.” – Terrorizer
