Once again Dante threw me a curve with this EP. I think he does it because he likes to watch me squirm. However, I persevered & managed to find Kadath‘s official website. After running my Google translator I was able to find a little more info. Kadath is a Japanese prog rock band from Yamaguchi Prefecture & was formed in 2009.
The Unknown Dream Quest of Kadath is an eclectic mix of music. Five tracks on this album & each is very different. Dragon has a prog sound with a funk/blues/Seinfeld theme hook in the middle. Ankoku is much darker & heavier musical piece. The guitar flies here. There are also some beautifully melodic sections.
Light Side of Darkness has some rock guitar a la Eddie Van Halen floating in the mix of some spoken word that is definitely rated M for Mature Audiences only.
Dark Side of Flowers provides a stunning contrast to Light Side. The beginning reminds me of Shadow Gallery’s Digital Ghosts. Hauntingly dark, it speaks to me in a way the other songs don’t. After several listens I can tell it will become a favorite song on my playlist. One of the more complex songs, Hiromi Sugawara shows off some impressive guitar skills. Wolf is the final track & has a more expansive feel than some of the other tracks. There’s space for the notes to fly off into the great beyond.
All the members of the band do an excellent job & I will be interested to see what other offerings they have in the future.
Kadath is: Hiromi Sugawara (guitar, talkbox, computer); Yagi Taiji (bass, vocals); Takashi Ito (drums); & ちせ <translated into We Immediately by Google Translator> (drums).
